The World Cement Association (WCA), an international non-profit organization representing the interests of the cement industry worldwide, announced the appointment of Raman Mangabhai as chairman of events and marketing.
Mangabhai’s impressive career in the cement sector spans both industry and academic roles. His background as a materials technologist has enabled him to develop significant expertise in the use of cementitious and concrete products in a range of industrial applications. Mangabhai also organized a number of successful international cement industry conferences over the last 30 years.
He is currently vice president of The Institute of Concrete Technology, taking up the role of president in April, and a Fellow of The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
At WCA, Mangabhai will plan and coordinate the association’s events and marketing activities globally, as well as liaise with regional representatives about local activities. He will be based in London, where WCA is headquartered, and work closely with Secretary General Norman Greig.
The World Cement Association is the only organization working on a global basis to represent and promote the cement industry and its stakeholders. Members are drawn from all segments of the cement industry and WCA connects them across the world.
A key focus of the association is supporting and improving best practice in a range of important areas such as health and safety, through its forthcoming dedicated awards program, as well as fair trade practices, action on climate change and social welfare projects worldwide. Members can also access specialist services, including comprehensive world cement industry statistics and industrial mediation.
